At Sunday church last week a beautiful little girl was sitting sandwiched in between her parents, wearing a beautiful 1st communion dress. She was the only child dressed for a first communion in the entire church, and I wondered why. Near the end of mass I got my answer. The priest explained that the first communion ceremony for all the second grade students was supposed to take place in a few weeks, but that this little girl’s father was being deployed to Iraq in just a few days. The little girl had an early ceremony by herself so that her father could witness such a special event in her life. I wasn’t the only one in the church who was brought to tears by the scene before us. It was very touching and beautiful! The little girl and her family looked so happy.
