Fourth of July Fun | Sophia's Style Boutique

It's that time of year. We're approaching the halfway mark of 2009 and the upcoming Independence Holiday. When looking for the perfect girls outfit for your summer get together, visit Sophias Style Children's Clothing Store.

Here are some tips to throw a fun and safe 4th of July party.

*Preparation - My tip for this is..LARGE trashcans with the extra large bags in there. If you have a couple of these handy, then cleanup will be a breeze. If your local regulations allow you to light off fireworks, make sure you have a large (5 gallon) bucket of water and another filled about halfway with sand. That will help in putting out sparklers or disposing of used fireworks. You'll need chairs but when you invite people, have them bring their own chairs. One less thing for you to drag out.
*Food - well, that's an easy one. Burgers and dogs on the BBQ is the standard. You can prepare in advance the toppings and have them sitting out for the people to grab. Chips are another staple of 4th of July fun. Dessert..now that's my favorite subject. You can easily just do watermelon or even some boxes of Popsicles. A always, make sure you tell people that they can bring items to lesson the load on you. Paper plates and plastic cups are the perfect utensils for this day. You can buy them in red, white and blue to help with the party theme.
*Invites - Just give everyone a holler. Tell the neighbors, your friends your family. Don't start the party too early, everyone will be exhausted by the time the big show starts.

When the time comes, sit back and enjoy our Nation's Independence. Make sure someone is keeping an eye on the kids (both large and small)!

Have another party tip or story? All you have to do is click here. I'd love to hear from you and we'll share your tips.

We here at Sophias Style Children's Clothing Store want to wish you and yours a safe and fun holiday.

carrie stroud photography giveaway

Giveaway #10

We know how much our readers love a good photography shoot giveaway. Here's one with a little spunk. Okay, a lot of spunk. I feel like I can hear Carrie Stroud speaking to me when I read her blog. And you feel like you know her subjects when you see her work. I can tell she is so much fun to work with. Check out some of her work:

Carrie photographs families and kids by capturing who they really are. How they live, laugh, blow kisses. She says, "I want to remember my child's scrunchy nose when they laugh, not a fake vinyl tree in the background and a pose that represents nothing about who they are as an individual. I capture them, and it absolutely thrills me to give that gift to others!" Yes, this girl really loves what she does.

Carrie works hard to capture her subjects' true personalities. "I don't like posed or perfect. Give me the sticky fingers and silly faces and I will truly jump and giggle. A photo shoot with me guarantees memories being captured. Possible side effects: I'll want to be your friend, chat about your day, and photograph your family forever. Hope you're okay with that."

Cute Carrie currently lives in Florida, but she will be scheduling sessions for Northern Utah and the surrounding Seattle area this year as well. So if you're in or near one of those three places, you should enter for a chance to win a photo shoot with Carrie ($125 value!), and maybe a new friend, too. Just leave us a comment telling us your favorite gallery on Carrie's Web site, and which location you would choose (Tallahasee area, Seattle area, or Northern Utah). This giveaway ends Wednesday, June 3 at 11:59pm PDT, so do it NOW. And if you're not able to enter, check out Carrie's Etsy shop for some gorgeous photos of everyday beauty. She's having a sale!
