Living Green: A Brighter and Healthier Future for Your Kids | Sophias Style

These days it hard not to consider the impact we have on our environment, and more importantly the problems or issues it may create in the future. Not to be all “preachy” but we have just one planet and our children will hopefully enjoy it for many years after we have moved on. I too am curious about ways I can cut down on the impact my family and I have on the environment. Reading into it, I stumbled across some awesome tips on eating green, and the way it can help both our environment and our health. Thanks to Conservation International (http://www.conservation.org/) for the helpful tips:
1) Buy food that is sustainable or harvestable and doesn’t endanger species or land.
2) Replace one meal of red meat with a sustainable fish or sustainable vegetable product. If everyone does this it will lower the carbon footprint dramatically as the raising and processing of most red meats produces considerable amounts of carbon dioxide.
3) Find your local market and purchase there. Not only will you most likely be driving less distance, the produce you buy will have traveled less distance and pump vital cash back into your local economy.
4) Compost your food waste. Kids will love a brand new environmentally friendly science project and you’ll get nutrient-rich soil for your garden!
These are just a few tips to leave a little bit smaller carbon footprint on our planet and hopefully live a little healthier in the process. Trust us: your kids may not want to eat their veggies now, but if they only knew it could keep the entire planet around longer, they might just turn!

Easter Dresses | Picture Perfect Ideas |Sophias Style

More and more Mom’s are outfitting their little girls in Easter dresses year in and year out. We here at SophiasStyle.com have noticed an upward trend in demand for special occasion dresses. It got me to thinking: Does a dress have to be called and Easter dress for it to work for a special occasion? Can fashion forward thinkers use Christmas dresses or even flower girl dresses for any party or event? Of course! Why not stand out from the crowd and pick up a flower girl dress or even a First Communion dress and use it for your little girl. You are still going to have awesome picture opportunities and more importantly, your daughter will truly feel like a princess. A simple white flower girl dress will allow her beauty to shine through, and can be used for any other event that comes along. With a little ingenuity not only will you be unique, but you can also be thrifty save some scratch!

Flower Girl Dresses | Sophias Style | Children and Wedddings

Jen
It is so common these days for children to not only be involved in the wedding, but to also attend the reception. In fact I was at a wedding this summer and the dance floor was filled at one point with children of all ages. The flower girl in her beautiful flower girl dress was having the time of her life, while toddlers twirled and swirled following the older kids lead. Although the dancing is kid friendly, there are parts of the wedding that are much harder to handle with children. Here are some helpful ideas to keep you little one occupied at the wedding.
1.Children might also enjoy some down time during the reception. A quick and easy way to help with this is to cover their tables in paper linens. Put containers of crayons on the tables and let them draw a special picture for you.
2. Have a special area designated for children and let parents know that toys, screaming, yelling , and laughing are permitted. You may need to take turns babysitting, but this may help keep the distractions to a minimum, especially if all the children are together away from the ceremony.
3, Try to have fun with the kids, this is a special place and let them know that. Educate them on the event and make a point to talk about things they may see at the wedding. Flower girl dresses, music, flowers ect.. Weddings are fun and can be fun with the children, make it fun and they will want to go to the next one too!
