Here are a few pairs that I think belong in every girl's closet:

This pair of black flats by L'Amour; they're the perfect combination of girly and practical. These are the sort of shoes that will work with dress up clothes or for daily wear, they're a wardrobe staple with a twist. We also carry them in white and light pink.
Girls Shoes

These red sneakers by Wee Squeak; every kid ought to own a pair of red sneakers, they're the epitome of childhood footwear. These are for playing kickball or hide-and-seek in the schoolyard! These are kind of shoes kids have adventures in, she's going to be wearing them when she brings home bugs in jars, they'll be on her feet when she does her victory dance on the day you finally agree to let her have a kitten or a puppy. This is the pair of shoes she'll wear holes in the soles of.

A pair of glittery fuchsia shoes by Luna International; girls like it when things sparkle and shine, particularly when it comes to jewelry and footwear. Enough said.

Halloween Costumes, Make Trick-or-Treating Memories | Sophia's Style

Girls Dress Up Clothes

Here at Sophia's Style, we've been getting new girls halloween costumes and baby girl halloween costumes in, and they're so elaborate and perfect! It's making me so nostalgic looking at them, I just wish I could be a kid again!
When I was a kid, Halloween was my favorite holiday! My elementary school teachers always let us wear our costumes to class for the day, and everyone was so anxious to come up with something really great. The whole day never felt like school, because everything was so much more fun with a costume on!
I lived in a very small town, so on Halloween evenings, my friends and I could go trick-or-treating by ourselves. We knew all the streets and which neighbors were the coolest (i.e. the most likely to give us good candy). There was one really creepy house, at the end of a block in the old part of town, where all the roads were still unpaved. It was this little A-frame painted a dull shade of moss green, and the whole yard was sort of ruddy and patchy and overgrown, and the house was set back from the road so far that it was really more like it was emerging from all the trees behind it. This super old couple lived there, and they must have known that their house was perfect for halloween, because every year they always had the biggest, most decrepit-looking scarecrow sitting in a rocking chair on the porch. One year, when I was 10, my friends and I got to this house, and we were all standing on the porch, sort of ignoring the scarecrow since we'd all seen him previous years, and right when I reached for the doorbell, the scarecrow jumped up and yelled at us!
Baby Girls Halloween Costumes
It turned out the old man had decided to wear the scarecrow outfit that year, and none of us had paid enough attention to notice when we were standing right next to him! He scared the bejeezus out of us, what a clever old man.
Make sure to check out our collection of girls dress up clothes, we've got great stuff for all ages, and every kid should have a great costume to be excited about on Halloween!

Dance Leotards for Girls

Girls Leotards
Do you have a little girl taking dance? I remember when I was, oh, maybe six years old, and my mom had me taking both tap and ballet! I was never very good (two left feet), but I loved it anyway- and I especially loved the pretty dance clothes. I used to run around the house all the time in my leotards and tap shoes, it just about drove my big brother mad!
At Sophia's Style, we've got an enormous selection of girls leotards in all different colors and styles. They're super cute and very comfortable (I mean it, we've got moms working here who buy them for their girls). We've got every shade and cut imaginable, spagetti cross-straps, tank top, cap sleeves, and tutus! There are solids, sassy animal prints, and cute florals!
Ballet Shoes
Your little dancer will look so sweet twirling around the studio in this angelic little white rosette leotard, paired with pink tights and legwarmers! And hey, don't forget the shoes! We have the most darling selection of girls dance shoes. I'm a bit obsessed with these fairytale-esque silver ones that are on sale (hooray!).
In fact, sale or not, all of our dancewear prices are remarkably low. Kids can be expensive, and activities like dance can be budget-breakers if you're not careful. You don't want financial barriers to prevent your children from having opportunities to participate, which is why it's important to shop smart. Sophia's Style sells only the highest quality products and the lowest possible prices. So have fun finding cute dance clothes for your little diva, without worrying about the cost!

Perfect Flower Girl Dresses | Sophia's Style

Flower Girl Dresses
I went to the most beautiful wedding this weekend. It was outdoors, and the weather was perfect- which was so lucky, because the very next day was a rainy mess- and everyone in the wedding party looked stunning.
The flower girl wore this beautiful little tea length flower girl dress with a puffy skirt, and she was so obviously loving it and enjoying all the attention she was getting. I wish I'd had a camera so I could post a photo of her! I did, however, find this adorable photo of twin flower girls in their flower girl dresses from Sophia's Style on our Sophia's Style Stars page, and I had to share it. The girls look gorgeous, and I love the dresses they're wearing.
If you have an upcoming wedding, make sure you stop by and check out our wedding styles for girls and boys- they're perfect and astoundingly affordable.

Personalized Gifts For Your Loved Ones | Sophia's Style

While in college, I nannyed for a family with five children, and the youngest one was a little girl named Madeline who was only two months old when I started. Her mother had of course received lots of gifts when Maddie was born, and amoung them were two particularly precious things: a blanket with Madeline's name embroidered in one corner, and a pink sleeper with her name embroidered on the chest. It turns out, these were gifts from Maddie's godmother, and she'd had them made for each of the children in the family. Maddie's mom told me they'd use the sleeper until Maddie outgrew it, and then she wanted to save it with Maddie's scrapbook. All of the kids were still using their special blankets with their names on them; even the ten-year-old.
It really does mean a lot to new Mothers and Fathers to received personalized baby gifts and personalized baby clothes. It's also good for older kids because personalized kids clothes help children learn to recognize letters and sound out words.
Adding embroidery to gifts is a great way to make standard presents extra special, so if you're shopping for a baby shower gift of a birthday present, make sure you consider it!

Get $15 Off at Sophia's Style!

Boutique Girl's Clothing
Boutique Girls Clothing
Good morning, I hope your Monday is going well.  If it's not, then maybe I can help, because as of today Sophia's Style is running a promotion where you receive a $15 savings card (basically that means you can have $15 to spend on boutique girl's clothing or baby girl's clothes) if you place a $100 order!  The card will be in your package when you receive your order, and you can use it the next time you shop at Sophia's.  Guess what else?  Because you'll be placing a $100 order of cute girl's clothes, you'll also get free standard shipping!  Now does Monday look better?

In other news, it's snowed on Friday night.  I'm very unhappy about this.  Last winter was horrific, and I would be fine with never seeing another snow storm in my life.  Mostly I stayed home and boycotted the weather all weekend.  I'm hoping this will be enough to make Mother Nature to think twice before sending anymore 30 degree weather our way this November.

Time for the Weekend!

Girls Dresses
Girls Dresses
It's Friday at last!  Weekend plans anyone?  Mine are to sleep late, go thrifting, and drink tea (outside, if the weather allows, I'm determined to  cherish every moment before the snow gets here).  I'm hoping to come across a miricle vintage dress that's sparkly enough for New Year's Eve.  Actually it doesn't even have to be sparkly, I can add sparkles.

Speaking of sparkly, we've just started carrying girls dresses by Sweetie Pie, and they're so pretty!  Green is my favorite color, which is why I chose to feature this particular dress today.  Isn't it beautiful?  These dresses are perfect for pageants, flower girl dresses, and really any other formal event.

Also, Sophia's Style carries lots of beautiful infant dresses, so you can find a baby girl dress for your littlest princess, too!

We're running a really cool sale on dresses, right now!  If you enter DRESS at checkout, you'll receive 15% off  dresses.  That code expires on Sunday, so if you want to use it, definitely do your shopping this weekend.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Gorgeous Girls Outerwear

Girls Outerwear
Bonnie Jean Girls Red Fleece Coat & Hat
We had frost again this morning!  You know what this means?  Clearly it means I should go buy a fur trapper hat and elbow length gloves, and you should check out our pretty pretty girls outerwear at Sophia's Style!

Today I feel like doing a My Picks post, so here are my picks from our winter things:

The Bonnie Jean Red Fleece Coat and Hat Set  -  This set is almost too cute for words, and I can't help but picture a little girl wearing this while skipping down the street in Paris, holding her parents' hands.  It's so Parisian!

Girls Outerwear
The Bonnie Jean Girls Fleece Printed Coat and Hat Set - I'm really into these coats with matching hats, Bonnie Jean is always so well-made, and I love the pattern and the bows on the front pockets of this one.

Girls Jackets
Girls Black Denim Studded Moto Jacket

The Girls Black Denim Studded Moto Jacket - As far as girls jackets go this season, moto and studs are seriously in.  Plus, I really like the ultra-tailored look, it's very flatttering.

And finally, (you should have known this was coming, I totally foreshadowed in the first paragraph) a fur hat!  Look how cute and trendy it is!  You know you want one (I've tried one on, they'll fit an adult so long as you don't have an exceptionally big head or tons of hair), but you should really buy it for your little girl.  Probably she'll pull it off better anyways, kids can get away with anything.

Girls Fur Hat
Those are my picks, and you can click any of the photos to be taken directly to their page and buy them immediately.

In other news, I posted a super tasty and scarily healthy recipe on our Tips and Guides blog today!  You can check it out right here by clicking these magical blue words

Have a fabulous Thursday afternoon!

Satin, Velvet, and Plaid, It's Time For Christmas Dresses | Sophia's Style

Girls Christmas Dresses
I love how beautiful and classic Christmas dresses have always been. There's something so pretty about a little girl in a plaid and velvet holiday dress, it reminds me of going to church for the Christmas pageant every Christmas Eve when I was little.

We've been getting new girls Christmas dresses in for weeks now, and I'm in love with all of them. They're so pretty and perfect. We've got all different styles and cuts, so you can find beautiful satin jewel tones, soft velvets, and red, blue, and emerald green plaids that are so gorgeous. We also carry all different sizes, so you can find a plus size Christmas dress, girls Christmas dresses, or even a baby Christmas dress.

Girls Bouffant Slips | Sophia's Style

Girls Petticoat Slips
Petticoat Slips
You know what word I never get to use?  Bouffant.  In fact, I don't think I've ever even said that word out loud, I only ever read it.  According to Wikipedia it's a hairstyle, "the bouffant was popular in Western culture in the 1960s, when it was created with the help of back-combing and large amounts of hair spray."  Wiki also says the the style is suspected to have originated in France, where it was developed because Marie Antoinette wanted her hair to look thicker.  Fascinating.  Girls bouffant slips are used for the purpose of making skirts look fuller.  They have without a doubt been around longer than Marie Antoinette's thin hair, so I kind of feel like the word "bouffant" should reference the slips before the hairdo.

Girls Pageant Dresses
Anyhow, enough rambling about word origins, the purpose of today's blog is for me to remind you that you might want to get petticoat slips to go with all the pretty Christmas dresses you'll be buying.  Sophia's Style dresses are made to be stunning as they are, but an extra fluffy skirt always looks extra adorable.

In other news, did you know that as of this week, Sophia's Style is carrying a whole new line of absolutely gorgeous dresses by Sweetie Pie?  Just look at how pretty these dresses are!

Girls Sleepwear | Sophia's Style

Girls Sleepwear
Girls Sleepwear
I don't know about everyone else, but all I want to do today is curl up and take a nap.  I don't know why, I went to bed at a very reasonable hour last night, I should be ready to rock today.  Maybe it's because I've been browsing through our girls sleepwear and it all looks so soft and cozy.

I especially love this red nightgown by Laura Dare.  It looks so pretty, perfect for the holidays, I can just imagine a happy little girl wearing it while sitting on the floor next to the Christmas tree opening up her presents.
Baby Girl Sleepwear
Also, I really love these black and white houndstooth pajamas by Mad Sky.  They're very pretty, and I found them in the baby girl sleepwear section.  I love the collar and the pink trim, but my favorite part is the design of the top, it's so unique and girly!

Looking at all the cute pajamas reminds me of how much I loved bedtime stories when I was little (and still to this day).  Both of my parents to me whenever they got a chance, because there was nothing I loved more than stories.  My favorite book was Summer of the Monkeys, by Wilson Rawls.  He also wrote Where the Red Fern Grows- which is beautiful and made me cry.  My dad used to doze off while he was reading, like right in the middle of a sentence, and whenever I woke him up he'd say "I was just resting my eyes!"  Do you read to your kids?  What books are their favorites?

Fall's Hottest Trends in Girls Clothing

This fall, there are so many great trends for girls clothes that you simply can't let your little girl miss out on. At Sophia's Style, we carry all the newest styles, so you can find everything you need for your little fashionista right here!

Here's what not to miss:

Mixed Prints

Girls Clothes
This trend is fun for girls of all ages, and no matter how they do it they'll wind up looking adorable. For younger girls, the dress pictured to the right is perfect- it's bright, fun and playful, but not overly babyish- so it will look just as cute on a toddler as it does on a six year old!

Girls Clothing

Ruffles and Tiers

This season's twist on plaid- a much loved fall and winter classic- is so girly and sweet. Everything is coming out with ruffled, tiered skirts. My favorites are the ones that alternate houndstooth with different plaids. It somehow manages to be silly and sophisticated at the same time, and it always makes me a bit nostalgic for school.

Girls Dresses
Layered Corduroy Jumpers
By no stretch of the imagination am I a morning person- I have a coffee maker on my nightstand- and when it's cold outside, it takes about four different alarms to get me out of my cozy bed. But I remember when I was in fourth grade, I had this really cute navy corduroy outfit that came with a matching turtleneck and ribknit tights (yes, I remember my fourth grade wardrobe, stop judging), and I wore it as often as possible because it was so warm. It was actually easier for me to talk myself into getting out of bed on the mornings when I knew I was going to get to wear that outfit. Corduroy is the warmest, most comfortable fabric- and layered over an ultra-soft mockneck? Hello best winter outfit ever!

Come shop these awesome trends at Sophia's Style, where you can find the best quality girls clothing and baby girls clothing for the lowest possible prices!
