Throw a Talent Show Slumber Party | SophiasStyle.com

The good news is a month of winter has already passed. The bad news: we’ve still got two months to go! No worries though, SophiasStyle.com is here to help you fight the winter blues (and crazy cabin fever) with fun indoor activities for you and your kids. Invite her classmates and friends over next weekend for a Talent Show Slumber Party and keep everyone happy and entertained!

Give each girl an invitation with a talent show theme – just print a simple flyer with the details and gold stars on your home computer. Along with her sleeping bag and girls pajamas, ask each girl to prepare a routine to perform at the party (if she’s comfortable doing so). Some suggestions are lip synching or dancing to a favorite song, performing a magic trick or telling jokes. Let the girls use their creativity and ham it up! Encourage them to use costumes and props too.

On the night of the party, clear a side of your basement or living room to use as the “stage.” You can even decorate it with balloons and streamers. To get Dad or Mom involved, have him or her act as host for the show. Let each girl perform for the other guests, and be sure to remind them that not everyone has to. Some girls may be too shy to sing or dance in front of others and besides, watching and cheering can be just as fun!

Another unique way to make it feel like a real show is to host an intermission halfway through. Set up a table or countertop with popcorn, pretzels, juice and other snacks for the girls to munch on. After the show, award each girl with a small prize for performing. Our girls sleepwear makes a great gift, and then she can even wear them to bed that night! Don’t forget party favors for all of the other guests too.

 Before you say anything, you should know that I am well aware of the fact that Halloween just happened, and we've got 11 months to go before it happens again. That's no reason to ignore the dress up clothing for girls at Sophia's Style.

Baby Girl Shoes | Sophia's Style

 Before I tell you about our fantastic selection of girls shoes at Sophia's Style, I wanted to mention this great blog I just started reading today. It's called Mi4Boys, it's written by a photographer named Staci, and it's about her four sons. The photos she takes are incredible, she took two for Sophia's Style, and you can see the full size versions today on our Tips and Guides blog.

Now, on to the shoes: I've decided to specifically feature a pair of soft sole crib shoes today, because I feel like I don't give baby girl shoes enough attention. It's a shame, because they're the cutest kind of shoes. I bought a pair for a friend of mine who's expecting a little girl in about three months, and she loves them. She said she "almost fainted from the cute-ness."

These silver ones are my favorite, they're like little fairy shoes! I love the bows on the front, and the silver pleats are even prettier in real life, they give the shoes such a unique texture.

the quilting bee giveaway

I am so freakin' excited about this giveaway! This is different from any giveaway we've done, and I know there are tons of quilters out there who are going to being dying to win this one.

Felicia Graves, owner of The Quilting Bee, is a machine quilter. She has been in business for six years, and most of her work is freehand. Before learning to machine quilt, so worked as an artist (painting needlepoint canvas for Rebecca Wood Designs) so her favorite thing to do is "draw" on quilts using her Gammill longarm quilting machine (I know!). So all you quilters out there, admit it--you have at least one quilt top just waiting to be quilted. Don't we all? This is where Felica comes in. People send her their quilt tops and backing, and she puts them together with a one-of-a-kind quilting design. Look how gorgeous these quilts look with Felicia's finishing touch.






In my opinion the quilting is really what makes a quilt. Felicia's work is so amazing--she is truly an arteest. And guess what? She's friends with our girl V from the other day. There's some crazy creative vibe coming out of that little town in the middle-of-nowhere-Utah. I just may have to make a stop there next time I'm there visiting family in Utah so I can soak up some of their amazing-ness!

So here's the coolest part. Felicia will be quilting a quilt for free (up to 56"x56") for our lucky winner! Here's what you have to do to enter.  I always talk about our clothing at Sophia's Style, but with Christmas approaching, and World Children's Day on Saturday, I think it's high time I blogged about our toys. Birthday Dresses

We just started carrying House of Wu dresses, and they are absolutely beautiful. They make the birthday dress featured to the left, isn't it gorgeous? All of their gowns are stunning, they're incredibly elaborate and detailed - they'd be perfect for pageant gowns.

But anyway, we came here to talk about birthday dresses. I must admit, when I first got this job, I didn't fully understand the whole baby girl birthday dress craze. I mean, I don't even remember my first few birthdays, and I certainly wasn't worried about what I was wearing to any of them. However, I started managing our Facebook page, and now I understand. There is nothing cuter than proud mommies, daddies, and grandparents posting all their adorable little girls birthday photos. Plus, the photos always look so sweet, with the birthday girl in her infant 1st birthday dress.

So, now I say go all out for the baby's first birthday, it means a lot to all of the family members and close friends, and it only happens once.

Is it spring yet?

Easter Dresses

It's too cold outside, I've had enough of winter. I think we should petition Mother Nature to give us spring early this year. Have you seen any of the spring collections yet? I have, because the fashion world is silly and operates a full season in advance and I'm a silly fashion lover, so I'm stuck in the same crazy schedule. But let me tell you, spring is definitely worth looking forward to this year.

Due to the fact that I'm hoping to alter time and physics by thinking about spring so much that we get fast forwarded to it, I'm going to talk about Easter dresses today! I love this little girls Easter dress to the left especially because of the way the fabric is draped above the hemline and the buttons down the back.

I really love Easter, when I was a kid I was so into the Easter egg hunts. My parents/the Easter bunny used to hide those little plastic eggs all over the house for my brother and I to find. They were all full of jelly beans or change, and it was so much fun to find them, then afterwards open them all up and see what was inside.

For today I won't bombard you with photos, but we have some extremely cute baby Easter dresses. I recommend checking them out ;)
